Artist Statement

As merchant seaman artist I photograph abstract images of worn and rusty paint on the sides of ships at sea. On the open ocean, beyond San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, I capture these amazing works of art which were essentially created by the forces of man and nature. To me a ship's hull is an expressionist's canvas with portrayals of physical struggle and natural beauty in which I find stories told by the ships own paint. With my work I offer a rare view from an imaginary point between abstract painting and abstract photography.
